Professional Concrete Floor Grinding & Polishing Guide

November 27, 2025

Proper grinding and polishing ensures durable, high-gloss concrete floors. This workflow applies to new installations, floor restoration, and maintenance. Follow the steps below for optimal results.

Step 1: Metal Grinding Pads — Coarse Grinding

Metal pads are used for initial grinding to remove uneven surfaces, old coatings, and major defects. They prepare the floor for finer polishing.

Tips:

Start with coarse grit (25# → 40# → 80#) depending on floor condition.

  • Remove major high spots and scratches first.
  • Finish with medium grit pads to smooth the surface.
  • Use compatible pads based on your machine’s specifications.

Step 2: Hybrid Pads — Smooth Transition from Metal to Resin

Hybrid pads remove metal grinding marks efficiently and create a smooth surface for resin polishing.

Benefits:

Fast removal of metal scratches

  • Smooth surface for high-gloss polishing

Step 3: Resin Polishing Pads — Graded Polishing

Resin pads are used for 200, 400, 800, and 1500 grit polishing, producing a clean, consistent shine.

Tips:

Progress sequentially from low to high grit pads

  • Clean the floor between each step
  • Choose wet or dry polishing based on floor requirements

Step 4: Fiber & Resin Maintenance Pads (17” & 27”)

Fiber or resin pads maintain floor shine and protection after polishing.

Applications:

Burnishing and daily cleaning

  • Applying floor guard or sealer
  • Maintaining long-lasting gloss and durability
